Local non-profit will still hold Christmas tree sale despite supply chain shortages

NORTHSIDE, Ohio (WKRC) - Caracole’s annual Christmas tree sale is this weekend, but due to supply chain shortages, the non-profit will only be able to sell about half as many trees as usual.

“We won’t make as much money, but it’s a tradition that we do this,” Caracole executive director Linda Seiter said. “People count on us. For people who buy trees and want to support a non-profit that they believe in, we’re the place.”

Caracole’s mission is to positively impact people’s lives in the fight against HIV through housing, care and prevention.

“All these decades later, people still carry a crushing stigma in some cases because they’ve contracted HIV,” Seiter said. “That can really be a barrier in terms of people seeking care and support from their family and friends and that’s where we come in.”

The tree shortage is yet another obstacle many non-profits are facing during a challenging year.

“It’s been a hard year in terms of raising money,” Seiter said. “It is for all non-profits in the world right now. It’s just really difficult, but for us the key is being creative and being willing to pivot when we need to.”

This year, the sale is happening at Growing Trade Pet and Plant in Northside.

It kicks off Friday, November 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

After that, they’ll be selling trees Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. while supplies last.
